Mario & Luigi: Brothership Opens Pre-Order Ahead of November Launch

Pre-orders are now open for Mario & Luigi: Brothership ahead of the upcoming RPG's launch on Nov. 7, 2024, as the latest game in the franchise.

The game was originally revealed to fans during the latest Nintendo Direct and came as a surprise considering the original developer, AlphaDream, went bankrupt in 2019. The announcement came on the heels of modernized versions of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Mario RPG.

Now, Nintendo is resurrecting the Mario & Luigi series with a brand new game in the series, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership marks not only the return of the RPG, it is also the first one that will become available for a home console.

Despite the game opening pre-orders, there have been no officially confirmed bonuses for those who do so but this could change in the near future. While Nintendo games rarely have official bonuses, major retailers usually include exclusive collectibles while they have the supplies, according to GameSpot.

Both Best Buy and GameStop are selling Mario & Luigi: Brothership for $60 and it is expected that Target pre-orders will soon go live. These three major retailers are going to be players' options for buying the game early.

On the other hand, Amazon and Walmart have not officially offered anything for the most recent and upcoming Nintendo Switch games. These include Nintendo World Championships, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Other than the two 3DS remakes, the last new entry in the Mario & Luigi series was Paper Jam which came out in 2015. This means that fans of the franchise have waited nearly a decade for the return of the turn-based, platforming action title.

In Mario & Luigi: Brothership, the brothers will commandeer their own sailing ship as they explore an all-new world with scattered islands. They are on a quest to return to the Mushroom Kingdom, said The Verge.

The two brothers need to work together in order to overcome various obstacles and defeat numerous bosses. Recently, the Mario brand has had waves of major releases that have renewed interest in the franchise.

The Return of the Series

In February, Nintendo released a Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake and Super Mario Bros. Wonder was considered to be one of the best games of last year. On top of the games, the franchise also got a lot of popularity due to the success of the Super Mario Bros. movie.

While Mario & Luigi: Brothership's original developer went bankrupt a few years ago, Nintendo has been staying quiet about which studio has taken on the role that was left vacant. Despite this, the company said that "some of the original developers" were still involved with the project.

It added that if fans want to know more about the situation, they should stay tuned to the game credits when Mario & Luigi: Brothership releases. Despite the reveal of the game during the latest Nintendo Direct, there was not much information that was shared.

However, the game was described as a "sea-faring adventure that unfolds across mysterious islands." There was also the promise of "evolved moves" for the Mario brothers that players will be able to use and master, according to Eurogamer.
