Terra Nil Gets First Major Update Adding New Levels, Buildings, and More!

Nature-themed city builder Terra Nil just received its first major update that adds a ton of new content, including five levels, nine buildings, a spinnable 3D world map, one creature, and more.

The latest patch, the Vita Nova update, also adds a more sophisticated wildlife system for players to experience. This gives the game a decorative fauna that has "deeper needs" and greater agency.

The update was revealed in an announcement trailer that showed off some of the new content that players will find, including a jaguar slavering over an unsuspecting herd of boar. The base game's main objective is to clear desolate regions of detritus and pollutants to bring back the vegetation.

This is done by placing down fancy rewilding gadgets that will require biopower to run that is produced by the map tiles that you restore.

The new maps added included Polluted Bay where players will have to work around a foul river. Another new map is Scorched Caldera where a volcano needs to be turned into a lake, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.

A press release for the Vita Nova update said that all of the new maps will put players' reclamation skills to the test in new, interesting, and unusual ways. The new wildlife system is said to add a new dimension to Terra Nil.

This will involve animals emerging "more naturally" in response to your restoration of the terrain and environment. Players will also be able to nudge the creatures about by constructing land bridges and also indirectly cultivate prey populations for predators.

The Vita Nova update aims to offset the drawbacks that were identified by some players, including the backbone of some city builders who focus on chasing numbers and filling meters in order to progress.

The base game focuses on bringing back nature to a desolate wasteland and restoring dead biomes as you go. The Vita Nova update aims to expand on Terra Nil's deeply satisfying nature restoration gameplay, said PCGamer.

Adding a Ton of New Content

The update also includes the new Vita Nova map that lets players rotate it so they can use their bearings and find locations much easier. You can also use this new feature to plan projects out with more accuracy compared to before.

While the new map may be a small detail in the grand scheme of things, static maps have somewhat been a struggle for many players. This makes a 3D version much better to handle than most.

The press release for the Vita Nova update described the overhaul of the wildlife system as something that would transform the landscapes. This aims to make them feel more alive than ever before.

It added that animals should now emerge more naturally as you play and they will have a deeper set of needs that you need to fulfill to keep them happy and abundant.

On the other hand, the nine new buildings added in the Vita Nova update will undoubtedly lead to more creative efforts by players as they go about reclaiming the terrain, according to Eurogamer.
