BioWare just released the first official gameplay trailer for its upcoming game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which showcased real-time action combat.
The latest footage showed off more than 20 minutes of gameplay for Dragon Age: The Veilguard and is the first time that fans have seen its action combat. It is also the first time that the developer has shown the magical city of Minrathous and the player-character Rook.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Gameplay Trailer
The new gameplay trailer begins in Minrathous, where players see returning favorites Varric Tethras and Lace Harding. They are joined by a newcomer companion, Neve Gallus, who is a private detective mage, as well as Rook.
The once-ally mage turned foe at the end of Dragon Age: Inquisition's Trespasser DLC, Solas, is now trying to destroy the Veil. This is the barrier between the magical Fade and the continent of Thedas.
The players' team, which is seemingly not quite the titular Veilguard just yet, is going on an adventure to stop Solas' plans. The latest gameplay trailer is just a tease of the game that is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC later this fall, according to GameInformer.
The gameplay trailer also comes after Dragon Age: The Veilguard received some skeptical comments following the decision to change its name from Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Also, when BioWare re-introduced the series to fans with a two-minute trailer, they unfavorably compared it to Fortnite and Marvel.
The developer quickly followed with a 20-second tease that fans reacted to much more positively. Over the weekend, it also showcased an hour-long presentation where fans were given a glimpse of the character creator.

Director Corinne Busche also took the time to answer some of the questions surrounding the game's romantic options and exploration. The game is running on the latest iteration of the Frostbite Engine. It was said that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is targeting 60FPS.
A representative for Electronic Arts supposedly said that the new game will feature performance and quality modes on consoles. This is to ensure that players can choose the visual fidelity that they prefer to play with, said IGN.
The Latest Entry in the Franchise
The latest game in the franchise comes a decade after the last entry in the series and the developer has changed a lot throughout that time. The studio made Anthem, a very different kind of game, and fans were concerned that it had turned away from its narrative-centric titles.
The game's character customization was shown off as very extensive, letting you choose from four races; human, elf, Qunari, and dwarf. You can then select one of the three available fighting classes; rogue, mage, and warrior.
After that, there are several backstories to choose from that inform you what type of person your character was before they showed up at the beginning of the latest game's story. The character creator also has a lot of sliders for body parts and overall shape.
None of these are tied to the voice or pronouns, such as she/her, he/him, or they/them, which is something new in the franchise altogether, according to Polygon.
