In Life is Strange: Double Exposure, the character discovers that while she is unable to rewind time in the way that she used to, she now has the ability to experience two parallel timelines at the same time.

These two timelines are identical but in one of them, her new friend Safi, has been murdered, and in the other, she is still alive, but her life is in grave danger. Max must use her new power to solve and prevent both murders and reunite the two disparate timelines, according to IGN.

Max was the star of two previous games, the original Life is Strange, which was developed by series creator Don't Now, and the prequel, Before the Storm, which was developed by Deck Nine. Life is Strange 2 and Life is Strange: True Colors both alluded to events in these games.

However, Life is Strange: Double Exposure is the first time that Max's story has been picked up in earnest by the video games since then. The latest title in the franchise will come in standard, deluxe, and ultimate editions.

The ultimate edition will include a variety of rewards and bonuses, including early access to the first two chapters two weeks ahead of the game's official release. Fans of the franchise can also expect more information on Life is Strange: Double Exposure during a livestream on June 13, 2024.

So far, what fans know is that early access for the first two chapters of the game coming with its ultimate edition will be playable on Oct. 15, 2024. Additionally, there is a release for Nintendo Switch that appears to be coming later on, said Engadget.

Bringing Back Max Caulfield

The original game, which was first released in 2015, was a unique narrative-driven title that was considered to be charming and fun. In it, players took control of a character who was given cosmic powers but the game spends the majority of its time making you feel bad about using them.

The Life is Strange franchise was built around the idea that players are able to impact the story based on the decisions that they make in-game. For one, this means that players will experience different stories and also means that there are different finales to see.

Due to this, there really has not been a true canon ending and the series has instead focused on exploring different characters with each entry in the franchise. In the original title, Max grappled with her newfound time travel abilities alongside her childhood best friend Chloe Price.

The two were forced to work together in order to unravel the mysteries behind the disappearance of Rachel Amber, discover the extent of the main character's powers, and prevent the possible destruction of Arcadia Bay, according to GameRant.
