Mastering Voice Chat: A Guide to Communication in XDefiant

XDefiant may not be as famous as Call of Duty or Overwatch, but it brings something new with factions from Ubisoft games like Far Cry and Watch Dogs. This arena shooter emphasizes team objectives over individual kill counts.

Effective communication is key in a free-to-play game like XDefiant, but sometimes you need quiet to think. Learning how to use voice chat and adjust its settings can help you find your optimal playstyle.

Voice Chat in XDefiant – Explained

Voice chat is enabled by default in XDefiant, with several customizable options in the Audio and Voice Chat section of Settings.

These options include:

  • Switching between public (all teammates) and private channels (party only)
  • Multiple voice chat modes: Push-to-talk or Open Mic
  • The ability to switch channels in-game and disable voice chat entirely during a match with an assigned key
  • Adjusting the voice chat volume, input device, input threshold, and volume boost

Using Voice Chat in XDefiant

Here is all the essential information about using voice chat in Ubisoft's free-to-play arena shooter, XDefiant:

  1. Voice chat is enabled by default.
  2. Choose between two modes: Push-to-talk or Open Mic.
  3. Switch between Private and Public voice chat channels.

To access Voice Chat settings, follow these steps:

  1. Access Settings.
  2. Select Audio & Voice Chat.
  3. Adjust the Voice Chat settings to your preference, including rebinding keys for the following functions on PC:
  • Push-to-talk: K (by default)
  • Voice Chat Toggle: M (by default)
  • Voice Chat Channel Switch (by default)

You can also toggle voice chat for your party or specific players from the score menu:

  • To enable or disable voice chat from the score menu, press the appropriate button at the bottom of the screen (e.g., the circle button on a PlayStation controller). To mute specific players, hover over their names and select the mute option.
  • While voice chat is great for team communication, it can also bring issues like encountering toxic players. In such cases, muting these players is advisable.

Muting players can be challenging because XDefiant currently lacks a pinging system. Without pinging, you’ll need to use text chat, which can be inconvenient and lead to in-game deaths.
