Yooka-Laylee, the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, is finally getting a remaster that will bring remixed challenges, improved controls, and many more.
The classic platformer made by developer Playtonic Games will soon be available for PC and unspecified consoles. The original game was first released in 2017 and was able to gather modest acclaim.
A Yooka-Laylee Remaster is Coming
At the time, it was considered to be a "gentle, irreverent platformer let down by spotty handling and a slight shortage of genius." It was then followed by the much more superior sequel, the Donkey Kong Country-inspired Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair in 2019.
On the other hand, Yooka-Replaylee revisits the colorful and sometimes cumbersome original but aims to polish everything to suit a new generation of players. Playtonic Games is now implementing an improved camera, revised controls, a world map, a challenges tracker, and many more new features.
The upcoming remaster is receiving an expansive art and animation overhaul, higher resolution support and performance enhancements, new and remixed challenges, a new collectible currency, new secrets, and new accessibility options, according to Eurogamer.
The original soundtrack that came with the first game will also be getting a major makeover and will be presented in arranged orchestral form. Despite the announcement of the remaster, there is no official release date yet for the remaster or what consoles it plans to release it on.
Yooka-Replaylee is the culmination of the growth of the developer over the past few years and the studio noted that the things they have learned while working on other projects and community feedback helped them improve the title for the remaster.

The remaster is also bringing back Vendi and tonics with all new flavors while also giving players the option to equip multiple game-changing enhancements. This means that you can truly customize your playstyle to your liking.
For players who want something more, Vendi has new lines of merchandise for the modern fashionable adventurer. The improved camera and controls in the remaster include tweaks that now allow you to combine moves more fluidly and make it easier to frame the action, said IGN.
Bringing Remixed Challenges and Enhanced Controls
The official description of the remaster reads, "Embark on an epic open-world 3D platforming collectathon adventure with Yooka and Laylee." It also adds that the search for Pagies will start once again in Yooka-Replaylee, which has been described as the enhanced definitive version of the classic indie game.
The original title was a fresh take on the classic third-person platformer perspective that many players grew up with. Yooka-Laylee features the lizard and bat duo Yooka and Laylee facing off against an evil CEO.
The latter has sucked up all of the books in the world in an attempt to find a magical item that will give them the ability to rewrite the universe as they please. So far, there has not been much information shared by the developers regarding the upcoming remaster.
Fortunately, the Playtonic team said that they will be revealing more about the new title on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, according to PCGamesN.
