Gray Zone Warfare Devs Apologize for Latest Patch That Made Performance Issues Worse

The developers behind Gray Zone Warfare have issued an apology after implementing a new patch that just made performance issues worse and has noted that they will be rolling back the update.

Madfinger Games CEO Marek Rabas also apologized for the incident and for ignoring feedback from the game's players. The community had already warned of the various issues that plague that realistic, tactical FPS game.

However, because the development team could not reproduce the problems, the hotfix was launched anyway, which caused more in-game problems.

Rabas also promised Gray Zone Warfare players that the developer will "always trust our community from now on and improve our pipelines to limit these problems."

It seems that the performance issues that Gray Zone Warfare players were experiencing were a result of "a wrong merge, and unwanted changes were propagated to the hotfix branch."

Madfinger has rolled back the latest update and will release a new one soon, hopefully without all of the issues, according to PCGamesN.

This is not the first time that the tactical FPS game has suffered from issues since it was first launched in April 2024. Initially, Gray Zone Warfare received terrible Steam reviews but was still able to sell 400,000 copies in just two days, which shows its potential.

Despite the variety of issues, the latest tactical shooter has continued to maintain good sales and has already closed in on nearly one million units being shipped as of June 2024. In his latest statement, Rabas said, "Please accept our apologies."

In response to the CEO's apology post, the majority of Gray Zone Warfare players were positive and understanding. One user said that they appreciated the honesty and also thanked the swift actions taken after acknowledging the issue.

The bugs in the latest patch will most likely be re-fixed before the release of the game's big "Patch 2" which the developer said is "just around the corner." This announcement was made in a recent blog post celebrating Gray Zone Warfare selling 900,000 copies, said PCGamer.

Fixing the Mistake

The post also read that the success of the game, in regards to sales, ensures their long-term commitment to Gray Zone Warfare. It would also ensure that the tactical shooter will continue to improve and evolve over time, based on community feedback.

The variety of issues that players complained about immediately after the release of hotfix 5.2 was crashing when they booted up Gray Zone Warfare. For those who were actually able to get in, they experienced significant frame rate drops compared to the previous patch.

This was a problem that was not limited to only one or two players as a lot of other people were experiencing following the launch of the hotfix. They reported the issue on social media as well as Gray Zone Warfare's official Discord server.

Rabas' post regarding the hotfix problems was a refreshing tone with how honest it was in the development team's mistake regarding the matter. It will hopefully become a learning experience for the developer moving forward, according to Forbes.
