One of the key features of the game is having players manage an ever-growing tribe with a variety of needs. What sets the game apart from other titles in the genre is the titular mask that lets players possess any NPC in the game to borrow their talents and skills.

You will be able to unlock more masks as you progress further into the game which will give you special abilities from the "ancient heroes" that walked before you. After you possess NPCs, you can also adopt them into your tribe and make them work in an automated production line, according to GamesRadar.

Other than possessing them, you can also befriend NPCs but you have to remember that each tribesmen have their own personality. Some of these are bloodthirsty warriors, dexterous hunters, ingenious craftsmen, and even a drunk lazy alcoholic.

The game's unique concept skyrocketed Soulmask to massive success among players following its Steam early access release on May 31, 2024. In just under 31 hours, it was able to sell more than 100,000 copies.

In a recent blog post, the game's developer, CampFire Studios, said that in the first four hours after launch, they were able to reach the Top 2 on the global bestseller list.

The studio added that after the first eight hours, the game achieved the Top 1 spot in paid game sales in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, and Brazil.

A Massive Survival World

The creators of Soulmask also estimated that for completionists, the game could offer up to 500 hours of playtime. This extensive game time combined with a map that is roughly 50% bigger than that of Ark makes for a unique and distinct title, said PCGamesN.

In celebration of the game selling more than 100,000 copies, CampFire Studio and Qooland Games said that the hours since the early access launch have been the "most exciting moments." They also touted the game's Steam rating of "Very Positive" which continues to grow.

They said that the fact that Soulmask has been well-received by players is probably the most important thing they learned about the latest release. They also expressed immense gratitude to those who encouraged them and allowed them to continue improving their game.

The game also seems to have a major focus on its combat as the titular masks come on top of eight weapon types and 75 skills' worth of options. Soulmask seems to be trying to set itself apart from other titles with its medieval European vibe and relies on a Mesoamerican aesthetic, according to PCGamer.
