The Sims 4 Reportedly Planning To Implement New Battle Pass-Liked Timed Events

Electronic Arts is reportedly planning to add new battle pass-like timed events to its highly popular life simulator, The Sims 4, much to the dismay of many players.

The revelation comes ahead of an official announcement this week as players discovered evidence of the new events system.

This will allegedly give players rewards if they log in regularly to the game. The first one is supposedly called "Happy At Home" and will run for the next 35 days and will have eight in-game rewards.

Many fans of the franchise immediately expressed their concerns about the new timed events, saying that they look very much like a battle pass.

The new system will reportedly be located on the main menu screen with a horizontal track of rewards that players can claim when they log in for a certain number of days.

The rewards will supposedly include things like new hair and jewelry for Create-A-Sim, new furniture, and objects for Build More.

While players are not being asked to log in every day, there are a set of three rewards possible during the first week of the new system, two during the second week, and so on, according to PCGamer.

One content creator for The Sims 4, SatchOnSims, also made a helpful comparison of all of the items in the event rewards track in order to work out that the majority seem to be new color swatches or minor alterations on various items that were previously available in different paid DLC kits and expansions.

In an announcement post, EA said that the first event will reward players for jumping back into the game while it is still active. The studio added that in the future, there could be new events that take players on a quest where they will have to complete goals to earn the rewards.

It also says that the new events system will not replace the current Sims Delivery Express (SDX Drops) if players are concerned about it. The latter occasionally adds a new free item for all players regardless of when they login to the game next.

Negative Player Feedback

The first event is reportedly going to be available starting on June 13, 2024, and most notably introduces a vending machine and a new trait known as Practice Makes Perfect. EA's blog post also clarifies that each event will end in an extra week where players can claim rewards that they missed, said IGN.

One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, said that the new timed events are not the proper way for the game. The user said that players will log into games more often when developers or publishers offer engaging gameplay to their titles.

Log-in rewards are a common occurrence for online games and are made as an incentive to keep the concurrent player count high. However, this kind of system is a relatively weird thing to add to a single-player game.

The latest announcement comes as EA added a nagging store button back in March that reminds players to think about buying DLC. and just last week, the studio announced it had "assembled a team" to work on fixing gameplay issues, according to Yahoo Tech.
