Electronic Arts Issues Fix After Steam Deck Update Damages It Takes Two Saves

Electronic Arts recently released a new update that made It Takes Two verified on Steam Deck and removed the need for players to use the EA App launcher but in doing so damages some players' cloud saves.

Now, the video game studio has issued a fix for the people who might have lost progress in the game by letting them download another save file where the game has been completed. It Takes Two was initially released in March 2021 and was published by EA and developed by Hazelight.

The latter is a studio that is run by Josef Fares, who is also known as the "Fuck the Oscars" speech dude from The Game Awards in 2017. The game tells the tale of a couple who have started to drift apart and their daughter is making a wish that turns them into toys.

They must work together in order to overcome various obstacles and solve puzzles that include, in a weirdly dark moment, pushing a stuffed elephant off a cliff.

And those who have been playing the game on PC using the EA App's cloud saving features could have experienced the latest issue, according to Kotaku.

The publisher posted on May 29, 2024, in an update on Steam where it announced that It Takes Two would no longer need players to use the EA App launcher to play. Furthermore, the game was also verified on Steam Deck.

In a FAQ that was included with the update, EA said that players who were opening It Takes Two through Steam would be using Steam Cloud for backing up saves. But those who were using the EA App's cloud saves have had their progress deleted.

While the number of people who are affected by this issue may be relatively small, there are still those players who are unhappy with the development. The majority of It Takes Two's players were probably not relying solely on EA's cloud saves for the game.

A Surprise Hit

It Takes Two became a surprise hit when it launched in 2021 and was even able to win Best Multiplayer Game at the Golden Joystick Awards and Game of the Year at The Game Awards. The game also has a "very positive" rating across more than 141,000 Steam user reviews, said PCGamer.

The latest update to the game also allows players to send game invites and join their friends' games directly through the Steam friends list, making it a simpler process. And with the game being verified on Steam Deck, it is now also supported for Steam Family Sharing.

What is also worth noting is that there is cross-play support between the Steam and the EA App versions of It Takes Two. This means that if you have a friend who has the EA App version, and you have the Steam version, you can still play together.

Additionally, save files that you have on your computer will automatically be uploaded to the Steam Cloud when you start up the game, according to DSOGaming.
