New Naughty Dog Game Teased by The Last of Us Co-Creator Neil Druckmann

The Last of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann teased a new game from Naughty Dog that he hopes will "redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming."

The tease was made during an interview with Druckmann's parent company on Sony.com where he talked about artificial intelligence. The Last of Us co-creator was expectedly vague about the studio's next major project but offered an enticing tease.

The interview primarily focused on technology and how it improves and makes it easier for creators to tell unique stories.

Druckmann talked about AI, saying that the technology is really going to revolutionize how content is being created. However, he noted that it does raise certain ethical issues that need to be addressed.

Druckmann argued that with AI technology as well as the ability to do motion capture right from home, both costs and technical hurdles are reduced. He said that this opens the door for the studio to take on more adventurous projects and push the boundaries of storytelling in games, according to GameInformer.

He also briefly talked about the future of The Last of Us TV series, saying that modern technology has allowed him to oversee the show's second season remotely from Los Angeles while it shoots in Canada.

With Druckmann saying that he is currently excited about a new project that he said is the most thrilling yet, Naughty Dog confirmed externally in March last year that it had decided on a project.

Druckmann said that there had been a growing appreciation for gaming that transcends all age groups unlike during the time that he was growing up.

He also said that the shift was highlighted by their venture into television with The Last of Us series, which he hoped would bridge the gap between gamers and non-gamers.

Success of the Studio's Other Games

Despite all of the information, everything is still so far only conceptual but it does sound like Naughty Dog is planning to make a massive leap with its next game.

The situation comes as outside of remasters, remakes, and collections, the studio last released The Last of Us: Part 2 in 2020, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in 2017, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in 2016, said IGN.

The Last of Us, which was released in 2013, is quite arguably both Druckmann and Naughty Dog's best-known work. The series that resulted from the game, which stars Pedro Pascal as Joe Miller and Bella Ramsey as Elli, brings the world of the video game to life.

There are many fans of both the franchise and TV show who are eager to get the second season, which is expected to be released sometime in the first half of next year. On top of this, there is another entry that people are looking forward to seeing sooner rather than later.

Naughty Dog game director Vinit Agarwal in November last year gave fans of the franchise tacit confirmation that production was still in progress on The Last of Us online multiplayer game. This gave fans more hope that they will be getting something fresh in the future, according to CBR.
