Amazon MGM is reportedly moving forward with The Sims movie with Hollywood and Barbie star Margot Robbie set to produce the new film.
The film is said to have been in development for a few years now and production may finally be picking up the pace. Amazon MGM is officially making the movie with the production company LuckyChap Entertainment. It also features Robbie in the producer role along with Loki director Kate Herron to direct.
The Sims Movie Moving Forward
The first information about the long-tumored The Sims movie was revealed earlier this year when LuckyChap Entertainment, which is run by Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Sophia Kerr, and Josie McNamara, announced that it was working on the project.
The film's stakeholders allegedly went with Amazon MGM in the bidding war but Netflix supposedly offered a larger bid. However, the producers decided that they prefer a theatrical release before the movie goes to streaming platforms.
Given The Sims' life simulation nature, it is still unclear just how exactly the movie in development plans to adapt this particular property.
Many fans have already speculated that the plot of the film could revolve around the Goth family, who are pre-made Sims who have appeared in nearly every entry in the franchise, according to GameSpot.
They also noted that the story could focus particularly on the mysterious disappearance of Bella Goth, which many fans still debate about today. Similar to other large video game properties, production companies have been threatening to make a live-action The Sims movie for quite some time now.

The first talks about the potential film came way back in 2007 but with the recent success of various movies, such as Super Mario Bros. and Barbie, it seems like these types of projects are starting to get more support.
The Sims is a highly popular life simulation game that was first released in 2000 and is like a more intricate game of the board game The Game of Life. In the game, players are able to create simulations of humans, and make them move through childhood, careers, marriage, parenting, and many others.
The Rise of Live Adaptation Films
While Robbie is not necessarily a part of The Sims movie's cast, her role as producer is certainly an interesting career trend. It also comes after she starred in Barbie last year which was received relatively well by movie-goers, said ScreenRant.
Since then, the Hollywood star's career has become populated by major IPs and she seems to have found a very particular niche as she moves forward with her career. The Sims and Barbie have also not been Robbie's first foray into major IPs.
The actress had previously been set to produce the film adaptation of Monopoly, which was based on the popular board game by Hasbro. Many live adaptations of video games and other media have grown popular as of late.
This can be seen with the relative success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, which has a third film coming out soon, and The Last of Us. Most recently, Amazon's Fallout series was critically acclaimed and was able to attract record viewership numbers, according to ComicBook.
