Fair Play and No Pay-To-Win
In a recent statement, Ubisoft assured players that XDefiant will not have any "pay-to-win" mechanics. "Any gameplay-impacting content that is purchasable is also unlockable through challenges to ensure fair play amongst our community," the statement emphasized.
This assurance is a positive sign for gamers worried about unfair advantages. Ubisoft's decision to exclude skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) in casual lobbies has also been well-received. SBMM is a controversial feature in games like Call of Duty, where it often frustrates players.
The statement detailed rewards for active players, including customization options and launch content. "Our goal is to provide amazing customization options that reward all matches, victories, and even defeats," Ubisoft explained. Players will unlock content through the Battle Pass or by completing challenges.
Exciting Rewards and Player Feedback
Ubisoft listed various rewards players can expect, such as battle pass items, in-game challenges, weapon mastery, and community participation rewards. This model aligns with the standard monetization seen in popular free-to-play games, where daily challenges and cosmetics incentivize regular play.
Ubisoft concluded by promising to listen to player feedback, particularly about customization options. The company aims to reflect and evaluate based on this feedback. Many are looking for a strong alternative to Call of Duty. Early reviews of XDefiant have been positive, with some comparing it to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
XDefiant is set to release on May 21.
