Black Myth: Wukong Releases Visually-Stunning Gameplay Trailer

Chinese video game developer Game Science released a new trailer for its upcoming game, Black Myth: Wukong, that is being called a visually stunning gameplay showcase.

The game is the studio's debut action RPG title and was first revealed in August 2020 with a stunning video that showcased 13 minutes of gameplay. But at the time, Game Science admitted that they still had a lot of work to do on the game before it was ready to release.

In early 2021, fans learned that the developer was planning for a 2023 release window, and at Gamescom 2021, Game Science confirmed that the game was being made with Epic's Unreal Engine 5.

However, the development team eventually delayed their debut title to this year and it now has an August 20, 2024, release date for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The PC version of Black Myth: Wukong will support NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 (including Ray Reconstruction) and full path tracing, according to WCCFTech.

The debut game of the Chinese video game developer was apparently inspired by Journey to the West. This is a Chinese novel that was published in the 16th century during the Ming Dynasty and attributed to Wu Cheng'en.

This is considered one of the greatest Classic Chinese Novels and may be the most popular Asian novel in history.

In Black Myth: Wukong, players will take control of the Destined One and will have to roam through a land filled with mythological creatures and encounter various dangerous enemies.

You will also have to master various staff techniques and freely combine a variety of spells, abilities, weapons, and equipment to gain the upper hand in battle that best fits your combat style.

On top of drawing inspiration from a classic Chinese novel, Black Myth: Wukong seems to take elements from the soulslike genre with grotesque enemies that have devastating attacks. The game will feature larger-than-life boss battles that are designed to challenge players' abilities.

Inspired by a Classic Chinese Novel

The game will pit you in head-to-head encounters that are at the core of the soulslike genre and Black Myth: Wukong is no exception. One of the key features of the game is the protagonist's staff that is pulled directly from Journey to the West, said GameRant.

The trailers for the game have so far confirmed that cloud traversal will play some sort of role for players to take advantage of in their journeys. However, to what extent cloud traversal will play is still unclear for now.

On top of these features, the game's protagonist will also be able to shapeshift as he is seen transforming into a flying insect or a giant monster. This shapeshifting mechanic is sure to bring a new spice of flavor to players, particularly during battles.

The enemies that have so far been shown include a giant wolf-like creature and large insects. The latest trailer also featured the massive area where the game takes place but there has been no confirmation on where exactly it is or what inspired it, according to Tom's Guide
