Activision Reportedly Rejected Tony Hawk 3+4 Pitch in Favor of Call of Duty Support Work

Activision Reportedly Rejected Tony Hawk 3+4 Pitch in Favor of Call of Duty Support Work

Activision reportedly rejected a pitch for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 in favor of providing support work for the Call of Duty franchise.

The developer of the game, Vicarious Visions, pitched a remaster of the franchise's third and fourth installments but was denied by the publisher. In 2020, Vicarious Visions released Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, which was a remastered bundle for the first two games in the franchise.

The collection had proved to be extremely popular to fans of the series and quickly resulted in various requests for remasters of the third and fourth installments of the franchise. Originally, the last two games in the series were supposed to be included in the first remaster bundle.

However, this was not what was released as the project became too large to the point that Vicarious Visions ended up only focusing on the first two games with plans to return to work on the other two games at a later time, according to ComicBook.

Activision choosing to reject Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 remaster is considered to be relatively unusual, particularly because of how well the first remaster sold. When the first remaster bundle was released in 2020, it became the fastest-selling game the skateboarding series had ever seen in its history.

It had sold so well that many fans of the franchise at the time had renewed hope that Activision would double down on the series and bring it back in a major way and not just remasters. However, after Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, the series has not yet seen the light of day.

Video game historian Liam Robertson's sources at Vicarious Visions revealed that the studio settled on adding some handling features from the later games to the first remaster bundle. These included improvements from the third entry to be included in the first two titles in the franchise.

Rejecting Vicarious Visions' Pitch

When Vicarious Visions' pitch for a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 remaster bundle was rejected, Activision moved the studio to work as a support for the Call of Duty franchise. It was also put to work on the release of Diablo 2: Resurrected, said PushSquare.

Tony Hawk himself, the legendary skater, revealed that the remasters for the third and fourth games in the franchise were on the table up until Vicarious Visions was rejected. He added that Activision "tried to find somebody to do 3 and 4, but they just didn't really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious."

While many fans of the franchise have been hoping for a new update or game in the series, they most likely will not be getting anything new. As Vicarious Visions has been rebranded as Blizzard Albany, it is not known whether or not the Tony Hawk franchise will get another installment.

For now, the only thing that fans of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series can hope for is that Microsoft will step in and greenlight another title in the franchise, which is also something that is highly unlikely, according to GameRant.
