Riot Games Addresses Concerns Over Vanguard Anti-Cheat in League of Legends

Riot Games has doubled down on its decision to integrate the Vanguard anti-cheat system into League of Legends, dismissing concerns that the update has caused PCs to malfunction. Following the implementation of the security measure in update 14.9, according to PCGamesN, reports emerged of users experiencing difficulties booting their computers or encountering unusual errors. Allegations surfaced suggesting that Vanguard was overly invasive, even likening it to spyware.

Riot Games' Response

Matt 'K30' Paoletti from Riot Games responded to the community's concerns on Reddit, asserting that there have been no confirmed instances of Vanguard causing hardware issues. Paoletti encouraged users experiencing problems to reach out to support, noting that Riot had assisted players who reported issues unrelated to Vanguard.

Paoletti emphasized that the reported issues affected less than 0.03% of players since the update went live. He highlighted Vanguard's effectiveness in curbing cheating, citing a notable decrease in bot accounts. Regarding screenshots, Paoletti clarified that Vanguard only captures images of the game client under specific circumstances, not the entire machine.

Ongoing Skepticism

Despite Riot's reassurances, some players remain skeptical. However, given Vanguard's successful implementation in Valorant, Riot's stance carries weight. Paoletti pledged an external report on Vanguard's performance in the coming weeks and directed users to accompanying resources, including a devblog and FAQ.
