Oddsparks: An Automation Adventure Mixes City Building With RTS, Multiplayer Feature

Oddsparks: An Automation Adventure is a beautifully detailed city builder that mixes in some real-time strategy elements as well as a multiplayer feature.

The game, developed by Massive MiniTeam, is a Factorio-like title that just launched on Steam and is perfect for gamers looking for a colorful city builder. The sandbox game revolves around its Sparks, which are cute little creatures that players can lead around the world or assign tasks to.

Instead of using conveyor belts, Oddsparks: An Automation Adventure will have its Sparks carry your resources between workstations. Players will also have to make sure that they lay things out efficiently in order to maximize production potential.

Some challenges that you can face include Spark traffic flow, long-distance transportation, and surfaces of varying elevations. You will also be able to take Sparks out into the world and they can help in handling some of the weird but wonderful threats that can be encountered.

Many of the creatures that players will see are mixtures of real-world animals, such as the giant Beelephant. Oddsparks: An Automation Adventure can be played either solo or with other people, up to four players, according to PCGamesN.

Despite the official multiplayer limit, the developer said that the multiplayer feature is uncapped if players want to invite more of their friends into their games. There are already three major updates that are planned for the first year of Oddsparks: An Automation Adventure.

The first update is titled "Trains and Trades" and is currently scheduled for an August release in order to introduce variations to the existing biomes, shops, new logic toys, and trains. The game is now out on Steam in early access and is on a 10% discount until Wed, May 8, 2024.

The developer said that it is also planning for the game's early access to last about a year but also said that it wants to be flexible in reacting to player feedback. Massive MiniTeam added that it wants to make sure that the game is in a great state for the full launch and will take time to make that happen.

Adding Some RTS and Multiplayer Support

Massive MiniTeam also said that they created Oddsparks: An Automation Adventure as a great entry point into automation games. They added that they included a fresh twist for gamers who have already played thousands of hours in the genre, said Gematsu.

The game's art lead, Christiane Ebrecht, and lead game designer, Brenden Gibbons, talked about the process of making Oddsparks: An Automation Adventure. They also discussed the various challenges that the team faced during the development process.

Gibbons explained that the idea for the game came from the team's love of automation games in general and wanted to share that with more people. He noted that many people who think that this genre is not for them are mostly turned off by the brown sci-fi coating that many titles have.

The game initially started out as a fantasy tycoon game before shifting direction into an automation game. Gibbons also noted that there are a lot of games now that seem friendly but are really stressful and challenging, according to the Epic Games Store.
