Metaphor: ReFantazio is launching on Oct. 11, 2024, and has just revealed new details about the game itself in new footage during a special developer live stream titled "Atlus Exclusive."
Studio Zero Director Katsura Hashino introduced the first hands-on gameplay for the upcoming title with a 30-minute livestream. He also discussed his development vision and creative inspirations as he traveled through various segments of the game.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Release Date, Gameplay Footage
During the special live stream, Hashino began by introducing viewers to the premise of Metaphor: ReFantazio's story and acquainted them with the game's protagonist along with his fairy companion Gallica.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is filled with some very interesting allies, rivals, and horrifying monsters that players will encounter. After Hashino displayed some of the introductory parts of the game, he showed that the first stop is shown with the Royal Capital Grand Trad.
This is the area where players will start getting an actual sense of the scale of the game itself as they walk through the city and view the maps. Fans also got their first look at another local, known as Martira, which is a town that has not yet been shown before, according to Xbox Wire.
As the director moved through the dungeons and locations in the game, he dove deeper into the gameplay systems and the journey that Metaphor: ReFantazio takes them through. At its heart is the Gauntlet Runner, which is a rather cool vehicle that can safely travel across wastelands.

Furthermore, it also doubles as the player's home base and headquarters when not out and about in the field. The Gauntlet Runner has more than enough space and has several functions that benefit players.
Another important element in Metaphor: ReFantazio is Archetypes, which lie in the job system. The Archetypes are a special type of power that can be awakened in different forms. Hashino highlighted a few of these, which are the Seeker, the Mage, and the Thief. He put all of these on display inside a dungeon.
A Reimagined World
The game also bears some resemblance to Persona 5 but is also very different in a lot of other aspects. However, unlike Persona, Metaphor: ReFantazio is a much more high-concept fantasy adventure, said IGN.
It retains several of the elements of the Persona series, such as the turn-based combat and the passage of time within the game itself. However, it reimagines these factors, such as instead of a school year that goes day by day, Metaphor: ReFantazio is more of a fantasy road trip.
The world of Metaphor: ReFantazio has been plunged into chaos as various parties are fighting it out for the throne after the king was assassinated. Then, a "royal magic" is triggered after the incident that allows anyone of any social status to become the next king so long as they have enough support.
The players will take control of the protagonist with the final objective of getting enough support to claim the throne by traveling the world. On top of turn-based combat, Metaphor: ReFantazio also incorporates real-time attacking and dodging, according to The Gamer.
