In this region, you can forage for food, such as fruits and herbs, tend to gardens, and fish, trade with other townsfolk, and many more. Players can do all of these while also working to help Bywater itself, which has not yet been established as an official village in Hobbiton, flourish.

A press release for Tales of the Shire reads, "Greet comfort at the door as you decorate your own Hobbit hole, tend to your garden, fish at the clear ponds, forage wild fruits and herbs, or trade with townsfolk," according to Game Informer.

It adds that you can even prepare homemade meals that you can share with other Hobbits in the area and foster relationships with them. The game's Hobbit hole customization also features grid-free placement.

This would allow players to put furniture and home decor anywhere they want and however they want. As time passes in your homestead, you can also harvest seasonal crops and flowers as well as stock your Hobbit hole pantry.

Weta Workshop said that the game will feature ever-changing weather that will affect daily routines and bring seasonal surprises to Bywater. Players are able to earn rewards as they progress through the story while also meeting familiar and iconic characters from the Lord of the Rings franchise.

While the first official trailer for Tales of the Shire was met with relatively positive feedback from fans, there were others who shared their concerns. This was mainly due to how the visuals of the game seemed to be a little bit on the underwhelming side, said The Verge.

A Cozy Hobbit Life

Tales of the Shire is a breathtaking new take on the Lord of the Rings franchise as other games in the series are usually full of conflict. These include bands of dwarves diving deep into Moria to fight off orcs or Gollum sneaking through Mordor trying to avoid danger.

Weta Workshop's hand in Tales of the Shire is fitting as the company had previously been responsible for sets, costumes, and beasties in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Many fans are now waiting to see how the company fleshes out the life of Middle-earth's diminutive inhabitants.

Middle-earth Enterprises has already given the video game developer the "broadest creative license to interpret the underlying lore of the books." This means that Weta Workshop has some flexibility in how it tries to present the story of these people, according to PCGamer.

The first official trailer for Tales of the Shire comes as the game is set to release in the second half of the year. It is said to be coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
