Five Nights at Freddy's 2 just got an official release schedule as Universal Pictures confirmed that the film will be available in theaters in Fall 2025.
The company's president of Domestic Theatrical Distribution, Jim Orr, was the one who shared the news about the movie. Despite the release schedule, no other details were shared about the highly-anticipated sequel but it does mark the first announcement that it is coming soon.
Five Nights at Freddy's is Getting a Sequel
The announcement should come as no surprise that Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is in development after the first movie became Blumhouse Productions' most successful movie in history. The first film had a reported budget of roughly $20 million but was able to rake in $78 million in its North American debut and went on to earn $291.4 million worldwide, according to IGN.
Blumhouse also joined in on the announcement through X, formerly known as Twitter, by saying that they were also confirming that the sequel to Five Nights at Freddy's is real and will be coming in Fall 2025.
The first movie in the franchise was based on the extremely popular video game of the same name and was launched domestically day-and-date in cinemas and on Peacock on Oct. 27, 2023. It became the most-watched title ever during a weekend on Peacock, a feat that is rarely seen with theatrical day-and-date streaming movies, said Deadline.

The game that the first movie was based on is set inside an abandoned Chuck E. Cheese-style pizzeria where the animatronic attractions come to life at night. Players are not given any weapons or escape routes and only have a limited range of defensive actions.
Despite its simple presentation, Five Nights at Freddy's gets very clever with what it brings to players. The main objective of the game is to survive for five nights, as is the title of the game, with a bonus sixth night, from midnight until 6:00 a.m. chimes on the clock, which is roughly eight to nine minutes in real-time.
The Terrifying Video Game Inspiration
There are four robo-mascots; Bonnie the bunny, Chica the chicken, Foxy the pirate fox, and Freddy Fazbear the bear. They will either meander or make a beeline to the security office in search of the player.
The only means of defense that players have are two metal doors, a pair of flickering hallway lights, and a camera monitor screen that stretches across their entire view when it is pulled up. The only thing you can influence is moving your head, operating the doors and lights, and flipping through camera emplacements.
While all of these restrictions may make it seem like the game is shallow, it is anything but as they make for an effectively frightful nightmare machine. Making sure that the deadly robot mascots are at arm's length drains power from a battery and conserving just enough to last the night is the challenge of Five Nights at Freddy's.
It is also impossible to keep the battery nearly full and idling away the hours and simply not touching anything, which is a very foolish thing to do, still drains some power from an overhead light and a nearby spinning fan, according to PCGamer.
