New Prince of Persia Game Reportedly Coming Out in May! Here's What We Know So Far

A new Prince of Persia game is reportedly coming out in May this year that is being developed by Evil Empire, which is the studio that brought Dead Cells to players worldwide.

The new title in the series is reportedly being called "The Rogue Prince of Persia" and is set to release in Steam early access soon. The game is said to be a new Roguelite that will receive constant free updates and will evolve over time based on feedback from the community.

It was also said that the new Prince of Persia game has been in development for the past four years and was a result of a discussion between Evil Empire and Ubisoft at GDC around 2019. The new entry into the franchise is expected to take its art direction inspiration heavily from Franco-Belgian comics.

Despite the rumors, it is currently unclear when the game will officially be announced to the public but is said to be targeting an early access release on Steam later this year. On Feb. 9, 2024, it was announced that Motion Twin would stop creating content for Dead Cells and that Evil Empire would be moving on to other projects, according to Insider Gaming.

The rumors come as Dead Cells sold more than 850,000 copies during its early access period on Steam and later sold 10 million units in 2023. While there are still no details regarding the development and current state of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, Ubisoft said in November last year that the game had passed an "important milestone."

There are also assumptions that the new Prince of Persia game will be announced during the Triple I Initiative Showcase that will be held on Apr. 10, 2024. This is because Evil Empire will be presenting its new project at the event.

The new title in the franchise comes as Ubisoft released Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown back in January to some rave reviews. This title garnered positive criticisms, which include working so well and that its parts connect seamlessly, said GameSpot.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Roadmap

This comes as Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is getting a new post-launch content roadmap that features a lot of content for the game. All of the new stuff coming to the game will be released throughout the year. This will start with new Speedrun and Permadeath modes that will arrive this month alongside new outfits for Sargon.

In the spring, the game will add a new Boss Rush that will come with even more outfits for Sargon. In the summer, the Divine Trials update will add new combat, platform, and puzzle challenges and give players new amulets, outfits, and many other wearables. All of these updates so far will be free for all players.

However, a new paid story DLC will be coming later on but Ubisoft has not yet provided any details regarding what players can expect. The roadmap certainly marks an exciting future for the beloved Prince of Persia game, particularly because almost all of the additions will be free, according to GameInformer.
