NeverAwake Announces 'Flash Back' DLC That Brings a Fresh Nightmare Into the Fold

NeverAwake has just announced a new DLC coming to the game, known as "Flash Back," that brings a fresh nightmare into the fold, a quick arcade shooter-like mode.

The new mode transforms the game into a rogue light shooter that gives players a new feel and has "Gabe-chan," who is an important character to the protagonist Rem, joining as a sidekick.

The DLC will also add completely new stages and new bosses for players to challenge as well as some long-awaited new accessories. The game's story has Rem waking up safely from the nightmare and as she feels relieved and spends her days with a peaceful mind, she makes a startling realization.

She found out that she was once again having nightmares at night, leaving players to try and figure out the cause of these terrifying experiences. The game asks whether or not Rem will be able to wake up again from more nightmares, according to Gematsu.

The basic mechanics of NeverAwake will be retained but the new mode will have a new style where players will have to go through shuffled stages in a random order. They will need to select weapons and accessories that become available between each stage.

There are many new elements in the update, including Gabe-chan becoming a crucial sidekick that will protect Rem. The DLC is an expansion of the game that was initially released in 2023 for the Nintendo Switch. The Flash Back DLC will become available in the summer.

The game's Steam page has more information regarding the upcoming DLC expansion and more details are expected to be revealed during the Shooters Fest this year. This is an online event that will take place over the weekend, said GoNintendo.

The game's developer, Neotro Inc., made NeverAwake available for various platforms, such as PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Some players who have tried out the game described it as refreshing.

A Terrifying World

Players take control of Rem as she fights against an array of enemies, including vegetables, dentists, and even her friends from school. These bizarre monsters are manifestations of her fears and dislikes and create a unique and surreal world.

There are those who jumped into the world of NeverAwake not knowing what to expect and some assumed that it would be a conventional shooter with a few jump scares here and there. However, it brought a challenging game that required players to think strategically and offered more than just mindless shooting.

Instead of focusing on simply mowing down enemies through sheer firepower, it encourages players to select the right special attacks and accessories at each stage. Players' mission in NeverAwake is to confront the terrifying creatures that give life to the game.

Every single stage is filled with these monsters and the goal is to collect souls and achieve a 100% completion rate to finish the stage. If players fall short of souls, the stage will loop, giving them a second chance to eliminate the enemies that they missed in the first playthrough, according to OneEsports.
