Minecraft Legends Comes to PlayStation Plus After Developer Steps Away, Meaning No New Future Content

Minecraft Legends Comes to PlayStation Plus After Developer Steps Away

Minecraft Legends has just been added to PlayStation Plus and allows players to dive into a strategy game to gather resources and build structures in a much more relaxing way than Minecraft itself.

The game steps away from much of the complexity of other similar games and while it may not appeal much to long-time fans, it could certainly attract new players into the franchise. Minecraft Legends is different from other RTS games such as Starcraft and Warcraft as players take control of their commander on the ground.

Minecraft Legends on PlayStation Plus

PlayStation Plus is bringing a new set of games this month, including Minecraft Legends, which has had its developer step away, meaning that will be no new content in the future.

Riding on the back of your trusty geometric horse, you can run around and order your troops on the battlefield. Players can gather resources through a menu that may be difficult to understand at first but makes the process of gathering and building relatively easy once you get the hang of it.

The default setting is that players can bring up the menu with a controller's left trigger and place structures with the right trigger. When gathering resources, you can put a building down which would spawn small pixie-looking helpers that are called Allays and they will work on collecting resources for you, according to Inverse.

Minecraft Legends also faces off players against hordes of invading pig monsters called Piglins. This game is more about defending villages in battle as opposed to the main game's freeform construction mechanic. This makes it involve a lot of building because setting up structures on the map is as simple as spawning Allays.

With this, players can prepare for an oncoming attack by shaping the battlefield in advance or building up defenses while the battle is underway. It also lets players attack Piglins directly using a sword or call in allies by building spawners.

You can command them to follow you as you travel across the map or move to another location where they will then engage with nearby enemies. While the basic controls of Minecraft Legends are relatively easy, ordering around your allies is where the challenge lies.

End of Development

There are also other games included in this month's PlayStation Plus, including Immortals of Aveum, a first-person shooter experience where players can use magic as their primary weapon. It was first released in August last year for about $60 and the story focuses on Jak, who starts out a thief but later becomes a key defender of the kingdom of Aveum, said Gizmochina.

Minecraft Legends coming to PlayStation Plus comes after it was announced earlier this year that the development for the game would be stopped less than a year after release. The developer, Mojang Studios, will no longer add new content but the game itself will continue to be playable and will receive technical support.

A senior creative writer at Mojang Studios, Cristina Anderca, said that they would be taking a step back from development. She thanked fans who followed them in their journey and helped make Minecraft Legends become what it is today. She noted that they will continue to explore the types of games that they are passionate about, according to IGN.
