CD Projekt Red Downsizes Cyberpunk 2077 Development Team to Just 17 Developers

CD Projekt Red, the development studio behind Cyberpunk 2077, has downsized its development team for the futuristic RPG to just 17 developers. This move comes as the studio shifts its focus towards other projects while continuing to provide patches for Cyberpunk 2077.

Decrease in Team Size

In its latest financial report, CD Projekt Red disclosed that out of its 627 developers, only 17 are currently allocated to working on Cyberpunk 2077 and another project called Phantom Liberty as of February 29. This downsizing follows the release of Phantom Liberty and Update 2.0, with developers being reassigned to other ventures within the company.

Sufficient Resources for Current Needs

When questioned by investors about the adequacy of such a small team, CD Projekt Red's chief strategy officer, Adam Kiciński, affirmed that the 17-member team is sufficient. He emphasized the studio's satisfaction with the current state of Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty, stating that there are no immediate plans for major updates. However, Kiciński also noted that the situation could evolve in the future.

Transition to Other Projects

While over 25% of CD Projekt Red's workforce was initially dedicated to supporting Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty following the expansion's launch, recent reports indicate a gradual winding down of support for the game. Despite receiving updates such as version 2.1 and several minor patches, it appears that CD Projekt Red is moving resources away from Cyberpunk 2077 towards other endeavors.

As CD Projekt Red focuses on its upcoming projects, including the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, Project Orion, the studio has been actively recruiting experienced developers from various renowned titles.
