Yellow Brick Games is separating from its publisher, Private Division, to independently bring its first-ever game to players.
The new title, which does not yet have an official name, is scheduled for release in 2025 and was made by a studio that features veterans from various popular titles, such as Assassin's Creed, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect.
Yellow Brick Games Release Teaser Trailer for First-Ever Game
The upcoming game is a fantasy action-adventure title that has been in development for the past four years. There was a short teaser that was recently released that showcased a small portion of the game's world as well as some of the creatures or monsters that dwell within.
In a statement, Yellow Brick Games CCO Mike Laidlaw said that self-publishing is a "leap of faith," particularly in the currently turbulent industry climate. He added that it was also an opportunity to take their destiny into their own hands and reach out directly to players as well as the wider gaming community during the new game's release, according to GamesIndustry.
The studio's co-founder and CEO, Thomas Giroux, said they see the change that the company has taken in a very positive light. He noted that with it, they now fully control their studio's ambitions, adding that the scope of their game remains unchanged. He said that their primary indicator of success will be player experience.
The recently released teaser trailer featured fantasy environments and ruins, rocky hillsides, and forested paths. One of the creatures that was shown was a large blue dog-like monster as well as a giant, seemingly stony giant wielding a giant glowing hammer. These could be some sort of first look at what players can expect to face within the game itself.

Yellow Brick Games previously described its first-ever game as an "ambitious new action RPG" that it said was built around "emergent systems." It added that the title seeks to create rich and interactive worlds for players to dive into.
Laidlaw's involvement in the project would most likely be what gives many players hope for the new title given his experience with Dragon's Age during his nearly 15 years working with BioWare. He also worked with Ubisoft Quebec, which was reportedly working on a canceled Arthurian fantasy game, said Rock Paper Shotgun.
Gaming Industry Veterans
In early 2020, he left his last job to co-found the new studio alongside Jeff Skalski, Frederic St-Laurent B., and Giroux. The full video for the initial footage of the game is scheduled to be released on Apr. 2, 2024.
On top of the teaser trailer, Yellow Brick Games released two concept art, featuring one that shows a character dropping down from the trees with a weapon in hand about to strike one of the stony giant creatures in the game.
Yellow Brick Games currently has officers in both Montreal and Quebec City and employs 68 workers. The studio was founded to foster a "people first" work culture where staff's wellness takes priority while also focusing on developing titles that feature "deeply interactive spaces where player creativity can shine," according to GaimInformer.
