The map for The Sims 5 has leaked and featured potential open-world gameplay alongside various real-life inspirations for locations and infrastructure.
On top of the leaked partial map for the latest game in the franchise, it is also said to include multiplayer options but will not play like a typical MMO title. It would instead focus on player choice and world customization.

The new title, which is codenamed Project Rene, is Maxis' latest entry into the series of highly popular life simulators and was first revealed in October 2022 at the Beyond the Sims Summit event.
Since the game's announcement, both the developer and longtime The Sims series publisher Electronic Arts have shared various tidbits of information. However, there are only a few official details that are currently known about the title.
Several playtests have been held since the announcement of the game that has given players a few glimpses into the world of The Sims 5. One recent footage allegedly gave players the chance to access a small part of the title's map, which is still in development, according to GameRant.
Reddit user DzXAnt22 posted on the social media platform that showed off what was claimed to be leaks of The Sims 5's unfinished map. The images showed a town and its roads that were said to have been datamined from a playtest build of the game that was recently leaked.

The user said that the images themselves were from an early build of Project Rene that was meant to be a tech demo for the new game's functionality. The areas that were included in the leak only represent a small part of a much bigger map that was said to have been inspired by Paris, France. The layouts of the locations match those of the country's historic capital city.
DzXAnt22 also speculated that the new title will feature an open-world setting since the playtest build ran well on a smartphone even with the title fully zoomed out. Furthermore, there were no UI elements for a travel mechanic or string references for traveling to other locations.
A New Open-World Map
The last time that a Sims title featured open-world gameplay was The Sims 3, which was dropped in the sequel, The Sims 4, in exchange for individual "worlds." Each one of these had its own aesthetic and focus and more worlds were added to the game through expansions, said ScreenRant.
Some of the worlds in The Sims 4 were only accessible via vacationing or traveling through portals but since then, fans have created their own mods to implement more of an open-world mechanic to the game, bringing it closer to its predecessor.
Electronic Arts has also showcased various other features in The Sims 5, including co-op building, better maneuvering, and many more. However, the new open-world gameplay caused many fans to be skeptical of the game's performance, especially on mobile.
However, the dataminer for the recent leak said that the title utilizes technologies such as asset streaming and LODs to offer solid performance even on weaker devices. They also mentioned that the leaked build of the game runs at around 30 fps on a Galaxy S9 smartphone, according to AFK Gaming.
