In the aftermath of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's latest update, version 1.002.000, players stumbled upon unexpected revelations hinting at an upcoming downloadable content (DLC). The update, which introduced features like New Game+ and new suits, unintentionally exposed a development game menu granting access to various settings for items, enemies, and health.

"Beetle Villain Arc" Uncovered
Within this development menu, players discovered a section labeled the "Beetle Villain Arc," presenting nine options that currently remain non-functional. Notably, the "Beetle Janice Intro"option sheds light on a character named Janice Lincoln, identified as the daughter of the reformed villain Tombstone. In the comic lore, Janice eventually adopts the persona of Beetle, a formidable supervillain utilizing advanced armor in battles against heroes like Captain America and Black Widow.
The existence of the "Beetle Villain Arc" aligns with earlier data leaks from Insomniac, the game's developer. While the base Spider-Man 2 game hints at Carnage DLC, the Beetle DLC's fate remains uncertain. Insomniac has not provided official confirmation, and both Sony and the developer have yet to release a statement. Insomniac did, however, acknowledge the unintended developer menu access and assured players that a fix is in the works.
Success and Future Speculations
Spider-Man 2, launched in October of the previous year, has achieved remarkable success, selling over 10 million copies to date. With the focus shifting to future projects from Insomniac, including a Wolverine game currently in development, speculation arises about a potential Marvel's Spider-Man spinoff akin to the standalone success of Miles Morales. Venom emerges as a likely focal point, echoing the pattern of expanding the Spider-Man universe in previous titles.
