It has been over a week since Season 9 of Overwatch 2 went live. But, in that short amount of time, it has become apparent that one Support hero has been making waves, particularly when it comes to eliminating his opponents. That hero in question is none other than the game's resident monk, Zenyatta!
Too Overpowered
Zenyatta, for those who are new to Overwatch 2, is a Support hero that is supposed to provide healing and assistance to his teammates. However, with the sweeping changes implemented in Season 9, Blizzard may have buffed Zenyatta so much that a lot of players deem him the go-to pick in the current meta.
To understand why Zenyatta is too overpowered, it is best that we talk about his kit. First, he has an ability called Orb of Discord. When used, Zenyatta throws an Orb at an enemy, causing them to take more damage from all sources for a brief period.
Then, there's the newly improved Snap Kick. This is his melee ability that has its damage and knockback increased considerably in Overwatch 2. Players who main Zenyatta use his kick religiously because of how effective it is at keeping enemies at bay.
And oh, Zenyatta has a very powerful ultimate ability called Transcendence, where he and his nearby allies are invulnerable to incoming damage for a set duration. During this time, Zenyatta and his teammates get healed in the process.

Upcoming Nerfs
Because Zenyatta has been over-performing since Overwatch 2 Season 9 went live, it is understandable that nerfs are in order. According to the game's Lead Hero Designer, Alec Dawson, Zenyatta is too survivable, so much so that he has become quite a nuisance and troublesome to play against.
One of the things that the Overwatch 2 development team is looking to change is the knockback distance of Zenyatta's snap kick. Dawson said that it will nerfed quite a bit because it makes Zenyatta untouchable, particularly to melee tank heroes like Reinhardt.
Additionally, Zenyatta is a bit too beefy at the moment due, in large part, to the health adjustments the dev team implemented in Season 9. As to how much HP will be shaved off, that remains to be seen.
The nerfs are said to be implemented in an update that will come in the near future.
So, what do you think? Will Zenyatta still be effective after the nerfs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!
