It looks like Blizzard just cannot catch a break, especially when it comes to the company's ARPG, Diablo IV. The company has recently been slammed by fans for offering a $30 Town Portal recolor bundle, with some people saying that this is just outright insulting to the fans of the game.

Egregious Monetization

At the start of the Lunar Awakening Event, Blizzard updated the Diablo IV microtransactions store. Here, players can find the "Hell and Back" bundle, which consists of Town Portal skins that have dedicated colors based on each class in the game. This bundle costs $29.99 and to make it somewhat "worth it," the company tacked on 1,000 Platinum as well. Of course, this did not sit well with the community. In fact, some players took to Reddit to voice their displeasure over this egregiously monetized bundle.

Redditor Mwatki20 pointed out that Blizzard really went with a $30 price tag for the Town Portal recolor bundle. Another Redditor replied that the appearance of the skins is "class-locked," meaning, players cannot select a specific skin out of the bundle if they want to.

Redditor PNDMike said that although the Town Portal skins are cool with the effects and all, the fact that they are class-locked makes the bundle not worth the purchase. They added that Blizzard should have made cosmetic items available in Diablo IV just by playing the game.

Better Things to Spend On

What makes this issue more infuriating for the players is that Diablo IV itself is not a free-to-play title. At the time of writing, players who do not have a copy of the game have to spend $41.99 just to get the Standard Edition. Setting the price for a cosmetic bundle, let alone something that is typically not seen the vast majority of the time, is just outright criminal.

As if that's not bad enough, some players pointed out that for the price of the Town Portal recolor bundle, one can get a vastly more popular game right now in Palworld for the same price!

Despite the community outcry, however, Blizzard will continue with their monetization schemes simply because there are still players who are going to spend money on whatever the company puts out.

If players really want meaningful change to happen in Diablo IV, they should ditch the game in droves so that the company will notice a stark decline in microtransaction sales. Only then will they pay attention.

What do you think? Do you agree that a $30 price tag for the Town Portal recolor bundle is just too much? Let us know in the comments!
