The newest season for Apex Legends won't be out until next week, but Respawn Entertainment has already released the changelog for the upcoming patch. One of the most notable things that will be added to the game is a performance mode on next-gen consoles, which lets PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users enable a 120 Hz refresh rate for smoother gameplay.
Despite the promise of more fluid graphics, some console players have expressed their concerns over the possibility that aim assist could be nerfed when Season 20 drops.
Aim Assist Nerf?
For context, aim assist is a feature in most first-person shooters that provides players with a crutch to help them aim better at their targets when using controllers. As it currently stands, console aim assist is set to 0.6 by default in Apex Legends, meaning, those who are playing the game on PlayStation and Xbox have comparable (or sometimes even better) aim than those who are playing on PC.
That said, some players are worried that the upcoming Season 20 Update for Apex Legends could nerf aim assist on next-gen consoles.
Rando147 asked on the Apex Legends page on X/Twitter if the next major patch for the game still has aim assist set to 0.6 on consoles if performance mode is enabled. Jens Salvesen, Associate Producer at Respawn Entertainment, responded to the tweet and said: "Nope AA is adjusted when perf mode is enabled to accommodate for differences in [server] tick rate."
What this essentially means is that PS5 and Xbox Series X/S users might have a weaker aim assist intensity on performance mode, with some saying that it could be at the same level as that on PC.

Nothing to Worry About
Although it was not explicitly stated as to how aim assist will feel when performance mode is enabled, some people in the Apex Legends community allay the fears of next-gen console players.
Redditor vaunch said that because 120Hz updates Aim Assist twice as often as 60Hz, there is a good chance that the feature might even feel better to use and become more effective.
Nobody knows for sure how aim assist will actually feel on next-gen consoles. Perhaps, players can find out soon enough when the Season 20 Update for Apex Legends drops on February 13.
