Things have been fairly quiet on the Arkham Knight front so Arkham Origins' Cold Cold Heart DLC can have its time in the sun. If you've been looking forward to the game's first story DLC, then today's your lucky day, because the first half hour has surfaced. A nice follow up to the brief five minutes of gameplay footage that popped up last week.
So if you have 30 minutes to kill, grab a snack and check out the video below.
As the name alludes, Cold, Cold Heart is Mr. Freeze's introduction into the Arkham-verse. Teased in January and formally announced the following month, the DLC gifts Batman with hot new gear to fight the frosty foe, including the new XE suit to keep Bats nice 'n toasty, thermal gloves to melt ice walls, and boiling hot batarangs. Players will get to use the new gear fairly often, as Freeze's goons will also be armed with the villains iconic weaponry.
It definitely looks promising, and new Bat-toys are always great, but like Origins as a whole, Warner Bros. has some big shoes to fill with this DLC. Players will remember Arkham City's battle against Mr. Freeze as one of the great boss fights of the game, forcing players to use just about every trick in Batman's arsenal to damage Freeze's armor just enough to bring the mechanized monstrosity down. Adding to the challenge was that effective techniques could be used only once. After that, Freeze would adapt.
Hopefully Bats' new equipment will help Origins' Mr. Freeze experience measure up to that of Arkham City's. We'll find out when the DLC releases later this month, April 22, for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. It won't be coming to Wii U.
Origins is out now for PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. A story follow up, Batman: Arkham Origins - Blackgate, is also available for the 3DS and PS Vita, developed by Armature Studio. A deluxe edition was recently announced, and is available now on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC for $19.99.
