The highly popular Pokémon With Guns survival game, Palworld, has become a sensation on Steam, boasting the ability for players to create and join dedicated servers, facilitating up to 32 players in the same immersive world. However, the Xbox edition of the game is experiencing a setback in the realm of co-op gameplay.

Limited Co-op on Xbox
The developer of Palworld, Pocketpair, recently announced on the game's Discord that players on Xbox or PC through Game Pass or the Microsoft Store cannot create or join dedicated servers. This limitation confines online co-op to 2-4 players.
While Pocketpair expressed a desire for dedicated servers on Xbox, negotiations difficulties were cited. The meaning behind "not up to us" is unclear, especially considering other games have implemented dedicated servers on Xbox. IGN has reached out for clarification, but Pocketpair has not responded as of now.
Impact on Player Experience and Platform Decisions
The absence of dedicated servers on Xbox is a setback for Palworld's debut on Microsoft platforms. Despite its success on Steam, where it ranks as the third most-played game, the 2-4 player limit for Xbox co-op may influence player decisions. Xbox users currently cannot play with those on Steam, but efforts for crossplay are underway, impacting PC Game Pass players unable to join friends on Steam.
Regarding Palworld's future, Pocketpair has no immediate plans for a PlayStation 5 version but is open to considering it in ongoing development.
In the multiplayer aspect, Steam users enjoy seamless four-player co-op, while the dedicated server option accommodates up to 32 players forming guilds in the same world. Unfortunately, Xbox players miss out on this experience as they cannot connect with Steam users.
