Hogwarts Legacy Hits 22 Million Sales Amid JK Rowling Fallout, Says Warner Bros Games

Warner Bros. Games has reported a staggering 22 million copies sold for Hogwarts Legacy in 2023, defying expectations despite the controversy linked to author J.K. Rowling. The game's success marks a significant achievement, considering Rowling's non-involvement in its development but potential financial gains tied to its performance.

Unprecedented Success Despite Controversy

Released in February, Hogwarts Legacy quickly gained traction, hitting the 12 million copies mark and generating $850 million in revenue within its initial two weeks. This momentum persisted, catapulting the game past the 15 million copies milestone and achieving over $1 billion in revenue. Notably, it emerged as Warner Bros.' most successful game release to date.

Disrupting Sales Charts and Future Prospects

Hogwarts Legacy's dominance as the top-selling game in the US until November 2023 is a notable feat, disrupting the long-standing reign of Call of Duty and Rockstar Games. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's David Haddad emphasized the significance of their game's ascent, breaking the conventional stronghold held by these franchises.

While rumors swirl around a possible sequel developed by Avalanche, details remain undisclosed. However, Haddad hinted at Warner Bros.' ongoing efforts within the Harry Potter universe, citing "a series of other things" in development. Among these ventures is the anticipated "Quidditch Champions," currently undergoing beta testing.
