Embark Studios, the development company behind the successful first-person arena shooter The Finals, is making some improvements to the game's anti-cheat measures following concerns about cheaters ruining the fun for everyone.

Improved Anti-Cheat

Cheating is pretty rampant in competitive games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. That is why it is really not surprising when The Finals, a first-person arena shooter that is slowly on the rise, gets plagued with a plethora of hackers.

Players took to Reddit to voice their frustration about the matter. Some criticized Embark for not having a killcam, which would have helped players use them as video for evidence. While others are disgruntled by the constant cheaters that have been running rampant in Ranked matches where the stakes are much higher.

Well, the good news is that Embark has been addressing the issue behind the scenes. Dusty Gustaffson, one of the community managers for The Finals, posted an official message that Embark Studios found a technical issue that prevented the company from banning cheaters in an effective manner. "We're now nearing a solution to this bug, and [we have] already begun re-upping our anti-cheat measures again," he added.

Not Enough

While it is great that Embark is doing something about the cheaters, the community is not convinced that the measures the company has employed are enough to thwart the evil-doers.

According to Redditor @CBTNotTheGameKind, anti-cheat measures could work but since The Finals is a free-to-play game, cheaters will just create new accounts and ruin the fun for everyone shortly after getting banned. They have gone on to say that the ping limit is mandatory at this point to deter hackers from other regions from ruining the game.

For those who do not know, many players believe that the majority of the hackers come from Asia. When a ping limit is imposed, players who are in one region are more than likely to have a higher ping than those in a different region. If a player is above a certain ping threshold, they will not be permitted to join a match. This could be a possible solution if Embark does not have the capability of banning hordes of hackers in a jiffy.

Another Redditor has a darker take on the matter. They said that Embark Studios is likely not going to implement a region lock because the company could lose a lot of money. "By segregating China away from the other region, they lose A LOT more money compared to just letting them have fun and ease of access," they added.

Redditor @SoggyRamyun opined that a region lock will not do anything because hackers might simply circumvent that by using a VPN. They said that this has been going on in another game, World of Warcraft.

With so many players clamoring for Embark to implement measures other than an anti-cheat, it would be interesting to know how the company responds to this.

Have you played The Finals recently? If yes, did you encounter any cheaters?

The Finals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
