World of Warcraft Classic 'Season of Discovery' Now Available; Encourages Players to Try Different Builds

Blizzard has finally launched "Season of Discovery" in World of Warcraft Classic. The main theme of this season is to encourage players to try and discover unorthodox builds using the new "Rune Engraving" system.

Truly is the Season of Discovery

At BlizzCon 2023, Blizzard announced that World of Warcraft Classic's Season of Discovery will introduce a new mechanic called Rune Engraving, where players can unlock and use abilities to create exciting builds. To use this mechanic, players will first have to secure items called "Runes" by doing quests, searching for them in chests, and discovering them in some parts of Azeroth. Each Rune will teach a specific ability or talent that is either inspired by or taken from previous WoW expansions.

As part of Season of Discovery's launch, players have access to over 100 Runes across all nine classes, which they can put on their equipment. In the level 1 to 25 bracket, players can apply Runes to their Chest Armor, Pants, and Gloves. Over time, more rune slots will be unlocked, allowing players to add more abilities to their chosen class.

It's important to note that some Runes can only be applied to specific gear slots. For example, the Shaman's "Shield Mastery" can only be engraved into the chest armor. The good news is that players can swap Runes at any time in the Rune Engraving interface.

List of Current Runes

Right now, players only have access to a limited number of runes. Here are some of the most notable ones:

WARRIOR

• Devastate
  • While you are in Defensive Stance and have a shield equipped, Sunder Armor also deals 100% weapon damage
• Raging Blow
  • A ferocious strike that deals 100% weapon damage, but can only be used while Enrage, Berserker Rage, or Bloodrage is active

WARLOCK

• Chaos Bolt
  • Sends a bolt of chaotic fire at the enemy, dealing 225 to 286 Fire damage
• Metamorphosis
  • Transform into a demon, increasing armor by 500%, reducing the chance you will be critically hit by 6%, and increasing your threat by 100%

SHAMAN

• Lava Lash
  • You charge your off-hand weapon with lava, instantly dealing 100% off-hand weapon damage
• Healing Rain
  • Heals the 5 most injured party or raid members within 15 years of the select area for 7 every second

ROGUE

• Shadowstrike
  • Teleport behind your target and strike, causing 150% weapon damage to the target
• Envenom
  • Finishing move that deals instant poison damage based on your Deadly Poison does on the target

PRIEST

• Penance
  • Launches a volley of holy light at the target, causing 64 Holy damage to an enemy, or 171 healing to an ally, instantly and every 1 second for two seconds
• Homunculi
  • Break off splinters of your soul to animate 3 miniature copies of yourself that attempt to attack your current target with a mace, sword, and axe, reducing the attack speed, attack power, and armor, respectively, of any target they hit

PALADIN

• Crusader Strike
  • An instant strike that causes 75% weapon damage and regenerates 2% of your maximum mana
• Hand of Reckoning
  • While you know this ability, the threat bonus from Righteous Fury is increased to 80% and Righteous Fury causes you to gain mana when healed by others equal to 25% of the amount healed

MAGE

• Ice Lance
  • Deals 35 to 41 Frost damage to an enemy target. Causes triple damage against Frozen targets
• Regeneration
  • Heals the target for 485 health over three seconds and applies Temporal Beacon for 30 seconds

HUNTER

• Beast Mastery
  • Your pet's damage and health are increased by 30%, and its Focus regeneration by 80%. In addition, your pet's Growl now also taunts the target to attack it for 3 seconds
• Explosive Shot
  • You fire an explosive charge into the enemy target, dealing 82 Fire damage. The charge will blast the target every second for an additional 2 seconds

DRUID

• Wild Growth
  • Heals up all friendly party members within 15 yards of the target for 156 over 7 seconds
• Fury of Stormrage
  • Reduces the mana cost of Wrath by 100% and each time you deal damage with your Wrath, you have a 12% chance for your next cast of Healing Touch within 15 seconds to be instant
