MultiVersus Season 1 now finally has an official release date: August 15th, and this came straight from the horse's mouth.
The official announcement was posted to Twitter by Warner Bros, but that's not all. As reported by IGN, the devs also posted new details about the game's new Battle Pass, which promises to let players earn in-game rewards. Here is the Twitter announcement on the official MultiVersus page:
We’re excited to announce Season 1 will begin on August 15 with a brand-new Battle Pass for you to earn in-game rewards! We can also confirm Morty will join the character roster on August 23 as part of Season 1. We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks! #MultiVersus

To cap things off with the announcement, MultiVersus Season is also confirmed to be bringing in Morty as a new character on August 23rd. But while the new Battle Pass is going to bring a lot of new content, Warner Bros clarified that not everything will drop at once. According to them, new game modes and fresh content will release throughout the entire season, while also promising that they'll share more details down the line.
This is great news for MultiVersus, whose release was actually delayed. Not a lot of reasons were given for this delay, but many people assumed it was due to the Warner Bros and Discovery merger. To this, game director Tony Hyunh confirmed that the game wasn't affected by the merger in any way, but declined to elaborate further.
Either way, things seem to be looking up for the new Smash-like featuring a host of characters from various WB IPs. Players can do battle against other people as favorite DC characters like Batman and Superman, alongside Tom & Jerry, Steven Universe, and even freaking Ultra Instinct Shaggy (yes, he's finally canon, people).
The game is also relatively well-reviewed, with GameSpot calling it "a worthy contender to the platform fighter throne." This is a big, bold claim considering how usual suspects have dominated the platform fighter genre (obviously Super Smash Bros). They praised MultiVersus' fresh take on the genre with its team-based platform combat, its excellent crossplay experience, and superb vocal performances.
MultiVersus is out now for all major platforms.

Everything We Know About MultiVersus Season 1
With MultiVersus Season1 well on the way, what can players expect once it arrives?
First off, let's talk about the two new game modes. According to GamesRadar, the game is going to get Ranked and Classic Arcade modes. But details on how exactly these modes work are scarce. Whatever is known about other platform fighters could inform what these modes are, but none of them are accurate until Warner Bros reveals official information.
Second is the Battle Pass. EarlyGame reports that access to the Battle Pass will cost 950 Gleamium ($9.99 in real world money) if you want to check it out. Huynh confirmed on Twitter that the Battle Pass will have 50 tiers of content, and there are rumors that any progress you make within it might be sharable with a friend of yours. As for the content you can expect, WB says players can get things like new skins, icons, banners, and other cosmetic in-game items.
