Doom Eternal on the Nintendo Switch was strictly a digital release back in 2020. But developer Bethesda has since already walked back on that claim, catering to collectors with a limited-time physical edition launch for the handheld console.
As reported by GameRant, the physical launch of Doom Eternal on Nintendo Switch is going to include multiple editions. There's a standard copy, a Steelbook Edition, an Ultimate Edition, and a Special Edition. The standard copy of the game costs the base $59.99 as expected, the Steelbook Edition costs $79.99; the Special Edition is at $114.99, and the Ultimate Edition is the most expensive at $174.99 (via Limited Run Games).
The contents of the Special Edition and Ultimate Edition include some pretty cool goodies for hardcore Doom fans. Here's what you will get:
Special Edition
- Doom Eternal physical copy with reversible cover (no DLC)
- Special Edition box
- Steelbook
- 18"x24" Doom Slayer and Daisy Poster created by Ian Nielsen
- Cheat code floppy diskette sticker sheet
- A replica Slayer Gate key
- Praetor Helmet metal keychain
Ultimate Edition
- Doom Eternal physical copy with reversible cover (no DLC)
- Special Edition box + Ultimate Edition box
- Steelbook
- 18"x24" Doom Slayer and Daisy Poster created by Ian Nielsen
- Cheat code floppy diskette sticker sheet
- A replica Slayer Gate key
- Praetor Helmet metal keychain

A Massive Turnaround
This was a 180-degree turnaround from the fiasco of Bethesda announcing that no physical copies of Eternal would be released for the Switch - ever. As reported by Nintendo Life, anybody who pre-ordered physical copies almost two years ago had their money refunded. This resulted into folks buying the game physically anywhere else (PlayStation and Xbox, most likely) just so they can get their hands on hard copies of the game.
Despite all the goodies in the Special and Ultimate editions, however, you might notice that they both don't include DLCs in them (same as the Standard edition). This means that anybody who pre-orders the limited-run physical copies won't get access to the Part One and Part Two DLCs. It makes a bit of sense considering just how big the file sizes for the content were, so just imagine how hard it will be to squeeze all of that data into a Switch cartridge.
Either way, getting Doom Eternal on Nintendo Switch is about to get far more exciting. The game itself was praised back when it was first launched in 2020, as a sequel to the 2016 Doom and the fifth overall game in the main series. It eventually came to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S over a year later. Critics praised the game for its blend of intense first-person-shooting action, gore, and excellent single-player campaign/multiplayer offerings (via IGN).
If you're looking to get a game where you basically live out your power fantasy, then Doom Eternal is that game.
