The Apex Legends Global Series 2022 championship has ended, and DarkZero has managed to defend its title for the second straight year. This time, they finally did so in front of a live audience - the first in tournament history.
By winning the title, DarkZero has secured the $500,000 top prize after starting the tournament off slow, reports Dot Esports. Aside from that, they also managed to win with a handicap as team captain Noyan "Genburten" Ozkose has been out of action during the Split 2 Playoffs.
In his absence, Rhys "Zer0" Perry and Rick "Sharky" Wirth from Australia brought the team to victory with help from loan player Jake "Jmw" Walters of the UK. Their early moments in the match were sort of shaky, as they didn't get any kills on the first two maps. But they then redeemed themselves by getting three kills next time around, good enough for 13th place as the series moved away from World's Edge.
But by this time, DarkZero had momentum. They used that to grab a total of 13 eliminations on Storm point, eventually leading them to hitting match point in Round 8. They were competing against fierce opposition inm Fnatic, NRG, and Alliance to name a few, but it was Spacestation that almost closed the match point out.
Then, they finally capped things off in Round 9 by collecting six kills, earning them first place and the Apex Legends Global Series 2022 championship - their second straight title. Here is a video snippet of the very moment when DarkZero won, to the delight of their fanbase live in attendance:

The Australian team is followed in second place by Furia (who won $300,000), then 100Thieves ($200,00), FNATIC ($160,000), and GMT ESports ($120,000). This is a really massive victory for the team, considering that even if they were the defending champs, they still had to come out of nowhere to win it all.

DarkZero's Path To The ALGS Grand Final
To say that DarkZero's path to the top of the Apex Legends eSports mountain is tough is a massive understatement. That's because they had to go through a lot to get there.
As previously mentioned, the team was only good for 13th place at the Group stage (via DotESports). Despite their relatively poor showing, this was good enough to get them into the Winners bracket as they were part of the top 20 after the stage. In the Winners bracket, they weren't also the best team as they only placed sixth behind aD to once again go to the finals as a member of the top 10.
But when things became even more high stakes, that's where the team's talent showed up and showed out. They were trading blows with everyone else during the later stages of the match, but in the end outlasted everybody long enough to get the win.
