Our first look at Halo Infinite's newest maps Catalyst and Breaker has arrived. 343 Industries has shared details about the new maps that players will go through in the second season of the game, called "Lone Wolves."

Catalyst Map is An Ancient Ruin In The Sky

A video flythrough of each map was released by 343 Industries on Friday on the Halo Waypoint website. The previews show Catalyst as an ancient ruin with waterfalls and temples, while Breaker is a weathered and weary scrapyard on a desert planet.

Tyler Ensrude, Halo Infinite's multiplayer level designer, gave an insight into how these two maps were conceived. "We like to start with an idea that just gets us excited first and go from there," Ensrude said. "That idea could range from a location in the Halo universe, to an art palette, game mode, or encounter. Every time we start something new though, it is important to consider what will make it stand out from the current selection of maps we already have."

Catalyst, according to Ensrude, is a symmetrical arena map that sits high up inside of a vast, elevated, and tunnel-like structure. Large cathedral walls surround the area, with waterfalls pouring down in the long floating aisles. There is also a light bridge that connects the two sides of the map.

Breaker Map Has a Giant Laser That Cuts Everything It Touches

Breaker, on the other hand, is set in a banished scrapyard. Each teams' base is a discarded ship debris, only divided in the middle by a large plasma laser cutter hanging on a beam, which can cut through anything it touches, including players. Ensrude says that this beam is a dynamic element of the map, which players can use to their advantage, or act as an added challenge in the gameplay.

Despite being brand-new maps, fans can still find the same distinct quality that all Halo maps have. Catalyst's design shows the influences of several Forerunner locations in the past editions of the game. It also takes inspiration from Halo 3's Epitaph map.

Breaker is a more ambitious map and is geared to become the best Big Time Battle map yet. This map also rewards players who can seize control of strategic points on the map. Breaker features several environmental hazards, including a variety of ways to melt enemies. Break's sightlines and center lane, for example, offer certain risks and rewards once objectives are met.

Season 2 To Feature New Modes

Aside from these new maps, Season 2 of Halo Infinite will also feature new modes. These modes are a result of various requests from the Halo Community. Below are the new modes that were announced:

  •  Last Spartan Standing
  •  King of the Hill
  •  Land Grab

According to an article by Forbes, the player count for Halo Infinite has been quite weak as of late, especially after a new update for the legacy titles was released. It seems that fans still prefer the classics over the new incarnation of Halo, especially due to the time it's taking for Season 2 to be released. But with these new exciting announcements, players just might give this title a chance.
