Atari acquires UK-based game database MobyGames. What's next for the retro-gaming firm?

Before this deal took place, Atari was hinting to invest some money for Antstream Arcade, a retro gaming cloud platform in the United Kingdom that features more than 1,000 titles.

Following this news, Atari stated that it was now making a move to include another venture in the deal: the acquisition of MobyGames.

According to a report by Nintendo Life, the transaction was settled at $1.5 million at that time. It was mentioned that this might occur in late March 2022.

It appears that the acquisition came true for Atari since it now fully owns the assets of the video game database. MobyGames has been active up to this day since its launch on January 30, 1999.

Regarding the deal, Wade Rosen, the CEO of Atari said that they would continue what MobyGames started for a long time. He stated that the company would bring the game database's service to the players.

"The MobyGames community has played a sustained and important role in the documentation, celebration, and preservation of video games, and supporting MobyGames allows us to give back to the community and contribute to its growth and success," Rosen spoke.

Retaining MobyGames' Integrity

Rosen also acknowledged the contribution of MobyGames--that's why he added that they are committed to retaining its integrity in the site.

In this way, they could use some methods to improve the experience for the users and even the contributors, per VGC.

In addition, MobyGames GM Jeremiah Freyholtz, who is also known as Reed, will stay in his current position, as confirmed by Atari. This person has been responsible for operating the platform since 2013.

With regards to the importance of the project, Atari shared how the acquisition could affect its business in the long run. Since the company's new CEO is an avid retro fanatic, there's a lot of room for the company to bloom once again.

Freyholtz said that they are currently venturing new tools and codebases for the project. As of press time, the full-time development is in the beta phase, where select approvers and administrators are responsible for its testing.

He added that the beta expansion would follow if the development continues improving over time.

In other news, GameNGuide wrote in its report that "Elden Ring" players are having a hard time defeating Godrick the Grafted, the first main boss in the game.

According to the source, it appears that only 55% of PC players have managed to beat this opponent. Compared to the PC gamers, it seems that PlayStation players have a bigger chance of beating down Godrick in "Elden Ring."
