"Battlefield 2042" still just doesn't seem to catch a break from player criticism, even months after it first launched.
TechRadar reports that the newest gripe players have with the new "Battlefield" game is its allegedly "recycled" character models. They're specifically singling out playable Specialist Maria Falck, who notably appeared in "Battlefield V," and a "Star Wars Battlefront 2" character model for an Imperial Officer.
Here is a closer look at the purported similarities in the character models, as posted on the "Battlefield 2042" subreddit:
As per the post (which has earned 4.2k upvotes at the time of this writing), it does look like that the character models are remarkably similar, even when viewed in different angles with varying lighting. And based on other players' replies on the post, a lot of people agree that this is somehow unacceptable.
Some players say that recycling characters is just another way for EA to cut corners and save money as if rushing to release a game full of game-breaking bugs isn't bad enough. But this isn't even the first time that players have been less-than-happy with how "Battlefield 2042" has handled its player characters.
Barely a month into its release, players were clamoring for the removal of the game's Specialists system. As reported by GamingIntel, people are clamoring for EA to bring the old "Battlefield' classes that folks are more familiar with from the previous games.
Despite the constant clamor for its removal, the Specialists system still hasn't been removed. While this isn't exactly the same as players' problems with apparently "reused" character models, it does paint a clear picture of EA's latest big-name shooter: a game barely holding on for dear life with constantly plummeting player counts.
From an all-time peak of 105,397, the game has seen its player count drop to a tiny 2,366 according to latest data from the Steam Charts (accurate as of February 21st).

Can 'Battlefield 2042' Be Saved?
Quite frankly, not a lot of people think EA can fix the game before player counts plummet to dangerous levels. That's because even three months after release, the game remains quite buggy and unpopular.
It's been taking quite a while for the developers to fix the game, and one of them had to apologize for it. According to ComicBook.com, Justin Wiebe of Ripple Effect Studios (formerly known as DICE) apologized to a fan when he was asked about how limited XP and tier 1 progression for the "Battlefield" portal hasn't been fixed yet.
According to Wiebe, the fix is "something that should have been simple that's proving to be quite complex." Fan reception for the developer's statements was quite mixed, but you really can't blame them.
"Battlefield 2042" has been so far just another rushed, poorly made, broken release from EA-a pattern that the company has been infamously exhibiting for years. If they really want to get in players' good graces, they have to change their attitudes towards their biggest franchises and fast.
