In "Mass Effect 3," one of the main missions situated close to the end of the game is considered among the toughest. In it, you're asked to choose between the Quarian race and the race of synthetic life forms known as the Geth-which race will have to die, so to speak.

So many players will choose to side with the Quarians, considering that one of the best characters in the entire franchise is a Quarian-the engineer and technical genius Tali. Some might even choose the Geth, mainly because of another former squadmate: the AI-powered sniper Legion.
However, there is a way to save BOTH. In this "Mass Effect 3" guide, you'll learn how to do just that.
Critical Choices In 'Mass Effect 2'
The first (and arguably the most important) thing to do is play "Mass Effect 2." If you jump straight into the third game after buying "Mass Effect Legendary Edition," you'll have to choose between the Quarians and the Geth, as per Tech Times.
By playing the second game, you lay the groundwork--this is what makes the entire franchise a classic-all of the decisions you make in prior games will affect how you play the next one. As such, the road to saving the Quarians and Geth starts with a few missions in ME2 involving both Tali and Legion.
Step 1: Convince The Quarian High Command To Exonerate Tali
As you play through ME2, you'll get the chance to play Tali's loyalty mission called Tali: Treason. Your first step is to accomplish this mission in an extremely specific way-by charming or intimidating the Quarian government into declaring Tali's innocence after she's accused of treason. We won't go into specifics of the story because it demands an article of his own.
To exonerate Tali, you'll need at least THREE Paragon or Renegade bars, writes TheGamer. You get enough bars by intimidating or charming any NPCs you encounter in the game, or by doing a Paragon (BLUE) or Renegade (RED) interrupt whenever the prompt shows up on screen.

If you have enough bars, you'll be able to choose a Red or Blue dialogue option that will convince the Quarian high command not to put her into exile. Any other choice will either get her exiled or make her disloyal to you.

Step 2: DO NOT Give Legion To Cerberus And Complete His Loyalty Mission
You will first encounter the Geth sniper Legion when you do the Acquire Reaper IFF mission, according to RPGSite. Once the bot is on the ship, Jacob and Miranda will come and talk to you about bringing the Geth on board. You will get the choice of selling Legion off to Cerberus or talking to him.

DO NOT give Legion to Cerberus, by any means, as this character is critical to brokering peace between the two races.
Once you've talked to the Geth, it will ask you to complete a loyalty mission titled Legion: A House Divided. Completing this mission, either way, will ensure Legion's loyalty and its survival in the upcoming Suicide Mission.
Step 3: DO NOT Take Sides In Tali Or Legion's Argument
This is a critical juncture at this point. On the Normandy, Tali will catch Legion trying to send data about the Quarians to the Geth fleet, which will cause her to hold the robot at gunpoint.
Once again, your Paragon or Renegade rating will play a massive part, as you'll need at least FOUR Paragon/Renegade bars for the charm/intimidate dialogue options to unlock, writes ScreenRant. By choosing either the red or blue dialogue option, you'll convince the two to make peace. DO NOT take sides, ever.
Step 4: Complete ALL Rannoch Missions In 'Mass Effect 3'
Assuming you did everything right in ME2, you'll have ensured Tali and Legion's survival and loyalty to set things up perfectly for "Mass Effect 3." Once you get to the Quarian homeworld of Rannoch, be sure to complete every single mission on the planet. These are as follows:
-
Rannoch: Admiral Koris
-
Rannoch: Geth Fighter Squadrons
The most critical mission is Rannoch: Admiral Koris. In it, you'll be tasked to rescue a Quarian admiral whose ship crash-landed on the planet. Once you find his position, he will ask that you help his crew survive and leave him to die.
REFUSE and convince him to re-join the Quarian fleet, as his presence would be extremely important once you need to make the big decision. To do so, you'll need to use the cannon on your shuttle to protect him from a pursuing Geth squad.
Step 5: The BIG Decision
If Admiral Koris, Tali, and Legion are all alive (and you've set things up right in ME2), you'll have enough Paragon or Renegade points for the last big choice. At this point, the Quarians are blasting the Geth fleet into smithereens, which will prompt Legion to upload the Reaper code to the Geth and ensure the survival of his species.
Ask Legion to upload the code. Tali will plead for you to stop, at which point you'll need to convince the Quarian high command to stand down by once again choosing the Paragon or Renegade dialogue (Rally the fleet or warn the fleet). Anything other than the blue or red dialogue will mean failure.
And that's it! By following this guide, you will now have two powerful fleets to aid you in your fight against the Reapers.
