War Thunder's Giant Snail Wins April Fool's Day [VIDEO]

Gargantuan Snail Gaijilla is War Thunder's Destroyer of Worlds

League of Legends had its Ultra Rapid Fire mode, Guild Wars 2 saddled all its characters with bobble heads, Google convinced Maps users they could capture pokémon, and Call of Duty: Ghosts' multiplayer maps got some humorous name changes.

But without a doubt, the crowing achievement for April Fool's Day goes to MMO combat simulator War Thunder, all because developer Gaijin Entertainment saw fit to add in the city crushing Gaizilla.

The name obviously rings familiar of the B-movie "King of All Monsters," the irradiated, atomic breath spewing Godzilla, but that's far from the heinous nature of the fearsome Gaizilla. In reality, or, actually, just War Thunder, Gaizilla is the derpiest looking snail this side of any MMO game, a derp to end all derp, and it's what countless players came face to face with yesterday (provided they downloaded the patch and played Arcade mode on the developer server).

Gaijilla was definitely a humorous addition to War Thunder. It even had its own origin story:

"At the end of March 1945 the Burmese National Army engaged Japanese occupational forces in fierce combat, and with the support of the Allies, soon liberated their country from invading forces. The Japanese army was unable to turn the tide of battle despite deploying their experimental war machine Daikaidzu "Gaijilla" GD11a, which the natives called "giant monster'...Unlike most Japanese combat vehicles, the new model is slower to manoeuvre in battle, but with regard to its durability and ammunition, it has no rivals."

Gaijin's description is only too true. The monolithic gastropod's shell was great for defense, shielding the majority of its body from enemy fire. But what really set Gaijilla apart from your average garden snail wasn't only its Steve Buscemi eyes, but its offensive capabilities. Gaijilla's feelers more-or-less tesla coils, capable of generating an electric current that Gaijilla could use to blast enemies right out of the sky.
