Stadia was introduced as both a game streaming service and a game development platform hosted in Google's data centers. In a previous article, I noted that this combination set Stadia apart from Microsoft's xCloud which is all about streaming games.
However, a straightforward comparison of Stadia and xCloud doesn't tell the whole story because xCloud is only part of Microsoft's vision for cloud-based gaming. The other part is Game Stack which is Microsoft's version of a full-featured game development platform residing in the cloud.
