Working retail isn't as bad as say, mining for coal, but it's still a painfully boring job, and the challenge of making the hours pass in a way that's not only "productive," but entertaining as well is a cringe worthy endeavor. Unless, that is, you happen to have a back store room full of Xbox 360 and One display boxes, and a flair for the creative.
In an EB Games in Melbourne' Australia's Harbourtown, there exists just such a fellow, who crafted the beast you see above all in the name of fandom for Respawn's multiplayer mech shooter, and current Xbox craze, Titanfall.
But it wasn't Hammond Robotics that built this charming display item, or the Militia. Rather, Redditor Hero of Pants was the mad sculptor behind the boxy mech, starting from the ground up. You can see the Titan take shape in a series of build-up shots on imgur here.
"I used reference from the Art book they published with the game, drew a little marker sketch to wrap my head around it, and pretty much made it up as i went along," he described. After "2 shifts and a few of my days off, maybe 3-4 days total," the monstrosity was complete.
"It's mostly made out of 360 boxes. We just had a lot of spare "dummy' boxes to use. I used what little xbone dummy boxes i had for the main parts simply because the colour worked better."
Someone tell EB Games to give this kid a raise.
His next build? A Smash Bros. model, Arkham Knight batmobile, and a MarioKart...kart, are all up for consideration, but keep your eyes on his Imgur and Reddit accounts for anything new.
Easily one of the more anticipated titles to debut this year, Titanfall released on Xbox One and PC earlier this month. It will release on the 360 this April. Additions to the game are planned, and there's already talk of a sequel. It was recently knocked off the top sales spot across the pond by inFamous: Second Son and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
