"Yooka Laylee" is finally coming up for release in 2017 as earlier announced this year by its developer, Playtonic Games. However, to the dismay of the many Kickstarter backers of the Wii U version, this will not be happening. Instead the game will be released thru the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft PC versions on April 11, 2017. The Wii U version is definitely cancelled and there is no promise yet for its possible release.
However, to replace the Wii U version of "Yooka Layle", there is an option that the game backers can avail to redeem their investment by converting to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. In a report by Nintendotoday, the most that the Kickstarters can do is to convert to the Xbox One, PS4 and PC platforms, if they are eager to get hold of the game very soon.
In support to this, Gamenguide has revealed that the Nintendo Switch will be made available for "Yooka Layle" next year. This is because, there are still negotiations to be undertaken between Playtonic and Nintendo, notwithstanding the technical issues that are to be resolved to do the switch. With the Switch console, the backers will be immediately redirected to the new version without additional cost.
For the April 11, 2017 release date, "Yooka Layle" Wii U game backers can choose any of the platforms as payback. One is the conversion to the PC digital Steam version plus the Toybox Plus. Another is to level up to the physical console version of Xbox One or PS4 or to change to the digital console version of the Switch. For continuing updates of the game, stay tuned to Gamenguide.
