Tom Clancy’s ‘Ghost Recon: Wildlands’: Ubisoft Threatened By Bolivian Government; No Diplomatic Negotiation?

Tom Clancy's "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" is currently upsetting the government of Bolivia due to negative representation of the country. Now, reports are claiming that Bolivia is moving to filing a formal complaint, and taking legal actions against Ubisoft.

It is obvious that Bolivia has been offended with Ubisoft, because of the not so pleasing depictions in the game. However, Ubisoft has made it clear that Tom Clancy's "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" is only a game with a purpose of entertaining players.

According to Game Rant, Tom Clancy's "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" is a fictional account of a fearsome Mexican drug organization known as the Santa Blanca Cartel enters Bolivia to turn it into a "narco-state" and manages to place roots of power in the government and hold sway over the country's population. Bolivia is certain that it is moving first with diplomatic negotiations, rather escalating the issue.

However, Bolivia's interior Minister, Carlos Romero thinks that the game is unfairly treating Bolivia, and is bound to take legal actions. Ubisoft has also released its statement in response to Bolivia's complaints.

According to Game Debate, Ubisoft explained that "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" is a work of entertainment, where players can explore the different landscapes, and environment of Bolivia. Further, the game is only a fiction just like the rest of the games, movies, and TV shows. The country was purely chosen because of its rich culture.

Tom Clancy's "Ghost Recon: Wildlands", being a tactical shooter video game carries with it no basis on reality. Although this concerns some of the players, there is no report that the game will be affected by the issues.

In the meantime, Tom Clancy's "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" is expected to launch on March 7, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Stay tuned for more Gamenguide update.
