With no word from Bethesda on when the new Fallout game will rear its head, fans are forced to look inward for their Fallout fix. Good thing that the Fallout community is a dedicated bunch, and while some are trying to pull the wool over our eyes, others are capable of some truly impressive works.
Fallout: New Vegas was rife with companions and different factions players could ally themselves with, or wage war against. While they were important in Bethesda's previous post-apocalyptic affair, groups like the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave didn't count for much in the western desert of Fallout: New Vegas. Instead, the NCR and Casear's Legion were the groups that held sway. But with such alluring power armor and fancy plasma and laser based weaponry, the two groups were hard to forget.
Players could gather together a small troop of former Enclave soldiers to help the NCR fight off the Legion (or vice versa), but that was about all the involvement the former leaders of the free world had in New Vegas. But it wasn't enough for a group of modders, who decided to turn the former shadow government into a playable faction, complete with voices, side missions, and a unique storyline.
The mod's known as "For the Enclave," and can be downloaded from NexusMods. According to the official notes, it offers:
- A joinable Enclave. (Henderson Bunker Enclave forces)
- A fully fleshed-out 5 part series main quest - The third resulting in a large scale assault and the fifth a dramatic and explosive conclusion to the story.
- A potential companion when enough progress is made in the mod.
- Four side quests.
- Full-fledged random encounters, with various possibilities depending on choices made during quests and progress throughout the main mission.
- Re-implemented & fully functioning Chinese Stealth Armor.*
- Various new interiors, exteriors and a brand new world space.
- An Enclave Radio Station, courtesy of GCRust.
Be warned that there are a few requirements to run the mod. In order to join the Enclave, the player must be at least level 15 and have interacted with Benny from the main questline. You will then be approached during your travels provided you stick to hoofing it on the shoe leather express, and avoid using fast travel. If you do use fast travel, head to the Goodsprings Cemetery, the road between Novac and New Vegas, or the road between Jacobstown and New Vegas to meet your friendly local Enclave representative.
