It doesn't matter if you fancy yourself a Nintendo gamer, or if you think Xbox is where it's at, there's no way you made it through 2013 without hearing about Naughty Dog's PS3 exclusive, The Last of Us. With a movie adaptation on the way, a "Game of the Year" winner from many outlets, and five friggin' BAFTA awards under its belt, it's the definition of success. Among the myriad of the game's accomplishments, Sony announced yet another achievement for the game to celebrate.
A recent post on the PlayStation Blog noted that since The Last of Us's June launch of last year, the game recently passed 6 million sales worldwide. That would mean there's one copy of the game for every 13 PlayStation 3 consoles.
A noteworthy accomplishment for any game, but that's not all for The Last of Us. The game's prequel DLC, Left Behind, now stands with a rating of 89 at aggregate score site Metacritic, "making it the highest rated PS3 downloadable content ever."
The future for the game and the developer? The post notes that the team is off to the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco, which kicks off this Monday, March 17. There, they'll "talk about some of the techniques and process that went into making The Last of Us."
The idea of a sequel has been brought up, and while nothing's confirmed, the game's Writer and Creative Director Neil Druckmann said options are being considered, saying chances are about "50/50."
"A good idea for a story that doesn't repeat what we've done, but somehow builds on the original. Short of that we won't make a sequel."
Druckmann also has his plate full with another Uncharted game in the works, and as he's committed to writing the script for The Last of Us movie adaptation.
