Two YouTube stars from U.K. who also owns a gambling site has been fined for promoting their site even to minors. The YouTubers were Dylan Rigby, 33, who owns the channel FutGalaxy and Craig Douglas, 32, who created NepentheZ channel were charged by the U.K. Gambling Commission and were fined $330,000 after one of them pleaded guilty.
According to Kotaku, Rigby was charged approximately $218,000 for not having the necessary license to run a gambling site and for promoting the site to kids and Douglas $114,000 for only promoting the site. Rigby was fined with a higher amount because he is the main operator of the site. The two were said to enable the use of gambling on pro soccer matches by using the virtual currency where even minors are allowed to use.
The illegal activity has been running for approximately 6 months and both YouTubers were well aware that children are using their site. TubeFilter reports there was even one minor who spent $730 in just one day. After the decision was made, Douglas posted a tweet saying, “The worst year of my life concluded today. I have so much to say, but you’ll take whatever judgment you feel needed from the press.”
Furthermore, Douglas said he will create a video explaining his side of the story when the time is right. He is very thankful for all his supporters and although this is the end of their journey, he will always be grateful.
The two YouTubers are not the only ones being accused today of promoting gambling on their videos. There are reports that YouTubers The Syndicate Project and TmarTn are also under fire for the same reason. However, both video creators have already apologized for their mistake and for not admitting that they are the actual owners of the gambling sites they promote.
